Magic ingredient

Cocoa powder

Raisins

Is it possible to make ice-"cream" without using milk, cream or any dairy ingredients? The following shows it is possible using a commonly available "magic" ingredient, and flavouring ingredients.

Partly inspired by rum and raisin ice-cream, this recipe is for a chocolate and raisin ice-cream. You could try other ingredients too.

Method

Put two items of the magic ingredient into a dish (with a lid), and melt in a microwave oven for one minute (900W).

Mash with a fork to produce a uniform consistency, and mix in the remaining ingredients. The quantity depends on your taste preference, e.g. one or two heaped dessert spoons of cocoa powder.

Put it in the microwave for another minute.

Stir, and allow to cool.

Transfer to a suitable container and put it into the freezer.

Result

chocolate and raisin icecream

Tip: prior to eating, if the ice-cream is too solid / frozen then just 10 seconds in the microwave will do wonders.

Quiz

So what do you think the magic ingredient is?

Butter Margarine Bread Peas Bananas Potatoes

Well that did not form the ingredient for this recipe - but who knows it might produce an "innovative" ice-cream. This recipe uses... bananas!

Yes, bananas!

Are there other magic ingredients?

No Yes

There are other ingredients that can be used, but banana does give a creamy texture that might be hard to beat. Orange was tried with ginger and cocoa, and it was okay (but perhaps some might prefer to blend the orange to reduce the fibrous texture in the finished product).
